23 ROMAN SARCOPHAGI IN THE SEA 840 METERS FROM THE HOTEL
They are 23 sarcophagi dating from the period 150-900 dc and are located just 5 meters deep, they are probably part of the cargo of a shipwrecked at St. Peter's in Bevagna about 1800 years ago.
These are 23 Roman sarcophagi of great archaeological value. They date back to the third century after Christ and are also called the King's Baths, they are large blocks of raw marble and have been located for over 1,500 years on the seabed of St. Peter in Bevagna,in Manduria, in the province of Taranto. Even during the day when the sun's rays illuminate the seabed, they are clearly visible given the purity and clarity of the sea of St. Peter in Bevagna. A nice idea for your family or couple holiday in Puglia. Not far from the Caribbean hotel on the Ionian Sea in St. Peter's in Bevagna in Manduria Taranto. Just 5 minutes from Hotel Caraibisiaco in Puglia on the Ionian Sea, about 200 meters from the shore, in the Air Line are about 800 meters of sea from the hotel.

MOUTH OF THE CHIDRO RIVER IN ST. PETER IN BEVAGNA
The Chidro River, only 350 meters long, was born in St. Peter's in Bevagna between the Borraco River and Torre Colimena. It is only 1500 meters from the Caribbean hotel and can also be reached by foot via beach for those who love these walks especially in the cooler hours in the early morning. The waters are fed by underground springs, through a naturally formed channel. They are springs of water that flow from the ground in a kind of crater 12 meters deep and 20 meters wide with a remarkable range of over 3000 liters per second. Located within a protected area, this river has become an important tourist stop. The incredibly crystal clear and invigorating water and the white sands make the dive a truly evocative experience. An interesting feature are the springs that flow directly from the sandy seabed that seems almost "boiling" creating suggestive effects. It is nice to be dragged gently by the current flowing towards the sea, it is a shallow channel, in some places just over a meter, but the effects of light created by algae, white sand and clear water, make the route an unforgettable memory of your holiday in Puglia on the Ionian sea. Hotel Caribbean is a special holiday in Italy
MANDURIA KINGDOM OF WINE AND OIL
The beautiful hotel Caraibisiaco on the sea is located in Puglia in the hamlet of St. Peter in Bevagna ( San PIetro in Bevagna), a municipality of Manduria at 9km, a country of 37,000 inhabitants famous for its Primitivo red wine and the production of extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality. If you want you can ask us in reception both the Primitive Wine and the extra virgin olive oil, if you like to buy it for you, possibly for those who are on the plane or unable to take it directly we can ask to send it directly to your home. Puglia is a leader in the production of wine and oil, the quality and genuineness of the products is unparalleled, in particular The Primitivo wine is now famous all over the world and typical of our area. In Manduria you can visit more than ten churches, including the Mother Church in the old town and in front of the Jewish ghetto, you can admire the Pliny Fountain, the megalithic walls, but also eat well in excellent restaurants and trattorias, there are many typical dishes and we in the hotel almost every day prepare the most requested and appreciated dishes such as beans with vegetables, orecchiette with turnip tops, friselles, countless flavors of the best Puglia cuisine and typical traditional Puglia in general, rice potatoes and mussels, piggy octopus, anchovies prepared in various ways, in addition the province of Taranto is known for the mussels that we prepare gratin or stuffed. So much for a holiday that makes you remember.
SALT PANS OF MONKS AND PINK FLAMINGOS
The Saline of The Monks nature reserve is one of the most evocative and exciting places to visit in Salento just 10 minutes from the Caribbean Hotel on the sea in Puglia. Separated by a strip of beach by the sea, surrounded by sandy dunes and Mediterranean scrub, it welcomes in a breathtaking panorama a unique flora and fauna. The name Saline of the Monks comes from the ancient saline run by the Benedictine monks of Aversa who, between prayers, until 1400 extracted salt. In addition to the scents of myrtle, strawberry, thyme, heather, here you can admire the famous Dance of flamingos that in the period of migration in flocks soar in the sky to glide elegantly in the salty of Salento. The salt flats are located just 9km from the Caribbean hotel on the sea in Puglia, within the Torre Colimena-oriented Regional Nature Reserve, a reserve that covers over 1000 hectares and involves several areas of natural interest. (NB: Flamingos are only present at certain times of the year)
BORRACO TOWER AND RIVER
Just 3 km from the Hotel Caraibisiaco, following the coast of Litoranea Salentina in the direction of Campomarino di Maruggio, on your right you can admire the Borraco Tower or Boraco Tower (locally Burraco) is an ancient anti-Saracen tower located in St. Peter's in Bevagna and formerly belonging to the fiefdom of Maruggio. The tower was built in the years of the emanation of the Chapters of Bagliva but then left abandoned to the weather for many decades, in fact the tower was crumbling. It is thought that the roof had even collapsed and a fig tree grew spontaneously inside the structure. Fortunately, in 2011 and for the next two years it underwent a complete restoration and the construction of an access ladder from scratch. The tower rests on a rock bank and is placed at the guard of freshwater sources, still existing, in fact it is close to the brook that bears the same name, River of Borraco, a small river, which flows into the sea near the tower that dominates the landscape that develops between Maruggio and St. Peter in Bevagna. Sources used by Turkish boats to reserve water. It is a tower with a square base trunk shape, consisting of a single room with barrel vaults, and on each side there are three caditoias with three barbacans in the center. The tower of Borraco was built at the end of the 16th century. and it is precisely about 400 meters to the west from a small river, the Borraco stream. With this St. Peter's in Bevagna in addition to the Chidro River to the left of the Caribbean hotel looking at the sea, it has this second river on the right looking at the sea from the hotel. Near the Borraco tower you can also rent boats and water scooters.
PUNTA PROSCIUTTO BEACH
In the marine protected area A 10km from the Caraibisiaco hotel on the sea is located in Puglia one of the most popular beaches of the Locals and the many tourists who, now every year, decide to head to this warm and welcoming destination. Among the most beautiful beaches in Salentine, Punta Prosciutto is characterized by an unspoiled and wild scenery. The beach of Punta Prosciutto is located along the coast of Salento that connects Torre Colimena and Torre Lapillo in the direction of Porto Cesareo. A small life-size paradise whose shallow, clear seabed makes it a perfect destination especially for families with small children, who in this way can enjoy hours of relaxation and tranquility without any thoughts. The beach where the Caribbean hotel is located and overlooks perfectly reflects this type of dunes, wild ginepers, shallow and clear seabed, soft and golden sand. In Puglia on the sea a lovely place.
LITTLE MUSEUM AND MURA MESSAPICHE
The Civic Museum of The Palace of Servite, opened on March 28, 2018 at the former Monastery of the Servite of Manduria (Ta) about 10km from the Caribbean hotel on the sea in Puglia. The palace is located in Omodei Street No. 28 and represents a section of the "Civic Museum" dedicated to World War II when the Americans arrived in Manduria. Between the autumn of 1943 and the end of World War II, American troops settled here in Manduria, creating a forced coexistence that aroused enthusiasm but also mutual mistrust. This little museum tells its story. The centre of Manduria is also very nice to visit, we recommend the afternoon at sunset after 6 pm to see the course, the shops, the many churches, the ghetto of the Jews, the Church Matrix (mother church) and many typical locals and trattorias or restaurants. You can go by car or even by public bus that connects you to St. Peter in Bevagna about every hour.
FONTE DI PLINIO (OLD WATER WELL)
Perhaps the most extraordinary place of ancient Messapia, the Pliny Fountain, a perennial source of water, perhaps even a sanctuary, a place of worship for those ancient peoples who populated Salento. The Pliny Fountain is named after Pliny the Elder who describes it in his work Naturalis Historia. The water source is hidden inside a cave about 18 m in diameter and can be accessed via a staircase. To make the place more evocative and enchanting contributes a large skylight that opens on top of the vault. At the skylight, externally, there is the representation of the civic coat of arms of the city of Manduria in the province of Taranto, that is, the almond tree inside a well. It is about 10 km from the Caraibisiaco Hotel on the sea in Puglia. The Plinian Fountain is located within the archaeological area of Manduria where you will also find the Mass. walls and other historical elements of the Messapi period
MUSEUM OF THE CIVILIZATION OF "PRIMITIVO" WINE
For those who love food and wine holidays but also for those who are curious, just 14km from the Caraibisiaco hotel on the sea there is the Museum of Civilization of the "Primitivo" wine, located inside the Manduria Wine Producers Cellar. This project gives ethnographic importance and documentary importance about the peasant civilization of Salento and the cultural and application evolution of wine production processes in the same territory. The Primitivo is the wine that represents Manduria in particular in the world. Under the nineteenth century star vaults, and in the ancient tanks of the Mandurian Cellar, in fact, it is possible to delve into two types of tour routes of the Museum. While everyday objects of daily life and work tools of the farmer of the time tell the social history and agrarian economy of these areas, on the other hand, the chronological display of old torchi and containers of musts and wines, together with the succession of machinery and equipment for vile opifici, testify to the evolution of technology in the fields of winemaking and winemaking. The rich gallery of artifacts and artefacts, which can be placed, in dating, between the second half of the 1800s and the early 1900s (but the Museum of Civilization of the Primitive also houses an imposing 18th-century stone-based press), is also accompanied by the exhibition of several contemporary original documents, reproducing writings and images related to the world of agriculture and wine. Among them was an edict by Ferdinand I of Bourbon in 1823. You can also admire the famous "capasoni". The "capasone" also called zirre, a clay vessel similar to a large jar, the term comes from the dialect adjective "capase" and indicates the most capable, the widest of all vessels.
SAN PIETRO'S CHURCH (IN CENTER)
IN SAN PIETRO IN BEVAGNA. A special mention should be given to the church of St. Peter in Bevagna where mass is generally celebrated in the Summer. The church is located in the central square just 500 meters walk from the Caraibisiaco hotel. St. Peter's Church in Bevagna is a neo-Gothic basilica, nestled in the medieval tower. The church was built to protect the relics of St. Peter. The building is located in the place where the Apostle Peter is said to have landed in the 1st century after Christ. During the archaeological excavations carried out in 2004, Byzantine burials and numismatic finds were unearthed that suggest the existence of an earlier hypogeic crypt under the current building built between the end of the fourteenth and mid-15th centuries by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of San Lorenzo of Aversa to whom, the tower was donated in 1092, by Ruggero d'Altavilla. The altar is carved into the hoof of the tower. The interior is simple to a single aisle, while the exterior has above the bezel of the portal a papal coat of arms in bas-relief, a stained-glass window, two coats of arms placed sideways in bas-relief, and a small bell tower sailed on the side facade. Surely the historical symbol of the holiday resort of St. Peter in Bevagna that from this church, where it is said stopped the Apostle Peter, takes its name. Also in the city centre there are fresh pizzerias, embers and shops, as well as groceries, tobacco bars and souvenir and nautical outlets. It's a 5-minute walk from the Caraibisiaco hotel and your beach holiday.
ST. PETER MANDURINO CHURCH
It is located in Manduria, which is the great bulwark of the Messenger world against the Greeks of Taranto, it houses within its beautiful archaeological park the church of St. Peter Mandurino, a singular place, lived in a time frame that defies the millennia, and which has seen totally different cults and civilizations. It is located in the heart of a large messapic necropolis, and is divided into two floors. The upper church and the underground crypt, which is accessed from the inside, through a steep staircase carved from the living rock. The exterior is simple, and you can easily imagine the reuse of classic vintage cones. It is a small church but with great historical and cultural significance much appreciated by tourists while visiting the famous Mass. walls, always within the archaeological park of Manduria. All of this can be visited in Manduria, it is advisable to contact pre-emptively to know the opening hours to the public and if possible ask for a guide to the following numbers: Information: : +39 338.13.40.466 - +39 333.48.75.023 (IN ENGLISH: +39 349.47.59.280)
CAMPOMARINO DI MARUGGIO MARINA TURISTIC
Just 8km from the Caribbean hotel on the sea in Puglia you can admire Campomarino di Maruggio with its marina. The entire coastline from San PIetro in Bevagna to Lido Silvana (direction Taranto) and from St. Peter in Bevagna to Porto Cesareo (Direction Gallipoli) is very renowned for the beauty of its sea and its very varied coastal km, which enclose some of the most beautiful beaches in Puglia. From west to east along the entire coast in the direction beyond Maruggio you will find the headland of Torre Ovo, the beach of Acquadolce Cyrenaica. Here freshwater springs in the seabed give the water a particular color and an extraordinary clarity. Pay attention to the speed camera placed in the direction of Campomarino 3km before the country. Campomarino is also known for the Conte beach, leaving Campomarino towards Taranto, a quiet and relaxing area.
GALLIPOLI
Bella City is the meaning of the name of Gallipoli, a seaside town nestled like a mirage on the Ionic coast, 50km from the Caraibisiaco hotel on the sea in Puglia. Gallipoli is about 40 km from Lecce. The ancient village, perched on an island of limestone origin, is connected to the mainland and the new city by a 20th-century arch bridge, recently flanked by another bridge to the port. Very nice and charming with its bars restaurants and attractions. Recommended dish linguine to hedgehogs in months where fishing is not prohibited. Gallipoli is also known for its discos and attractions for the very young. One of the most striking places in Salento, it directly overlooks the Ionian Sea
ST ANDREW'S ISLAND AT GALLIPOLI
"The Isle of Gallipoli", known as Sant'Andrea Island, is one of the few islands in Salento and is less than 2 kilometers from the Gallipoli coast about 50km from the Caraibisiaco hotel on the sea in Puglia. Its area, about 50 thousand square meters, is mostly low rock, with little vegetation of Mediterranean scrub and layers of salt deposited by storm surges. The Messapi, who had colonized the lands of Salento between the 9th and 3rd centuries, called the island Achtotus, or Arida Land, precisely because of these characteristics. Once at Gallipoli rent a boat or ask the port to see it up close, if the weather and sea conditions allow it. Of course don't forget to visit Gallipoli and the old town, with great restaurants where you can eat fresh fish and admire the Gallipoli coast.
LECCE
Lecce is the capital of Baroque and is about 50km from the Caribbean Hotel on the sea in Puglia, about 1 hour by road. In the coat of arms of Lecce there is a leccio tree and a wolf. The tree represents the typical lingo trees in the Land of Otranto until the 1700s, instead the wolf symbolizes contact with the Roman Empire. The entrance gates to the city are four: Porta Napoli, Porta Rudiae, Porta San Biagio and Porta San Martino, now no longer visible. What makes the Lecce Baroque unique are the garish decorations of the ancient palaces, often imposing and sumptuous, and the particular Lecce stone, made of soft but compact limestone with warm golden colors. Baroque art has found fertile ground in Lecce, spreading and replacing classical art during the period of Spanish domination. Walking through the small and wonderful streets of the old town of Lecce, you will be enchanted by the wonder of the particular Baroque work, the warm colors of the buildings, the unprecedented imagination of its decorations, not only of churches, portals and monuments, but also of the balconies and terraces of private homes.
OTRANTO (MEETINGS OF THE EAST)
Otranto is the most eastern city in Italy and mirrors itself in the Adriatic Sea, during the summer the city is a pulsating tourist center of people from all parts of the world. The south coast starts from the port with high cliffs that rise over the sea, there are countless caves such as the prehistoric cave called Palombara cave, the cave of the Pool, the cave of the Sheep, in the area further east you can admire the first dawn of Italy, with the lighthouse that stands majestically the Lighthouse. South of the palascia tip is the area with the Sant'Emiliano Tower. Continuing you reach the picturesque Port Badisco, where, according to legend, Aeneas has landed. Otranto is beautiful to visit, those who like to move but do not have much time can plan an excursion to Lecce and then Otranto and instead allocate a second day for the Gallipoli and Santa Maria of Leuca to the Ciolo, as doing everything in one day, being the Puglia very large, does not allow you to appreciate the peculiarities and differences of the two slopes of Salentini, both comfortable to reach from the Caraibisiaco hotel on the sea. The beauty of Hotel Caraibisiaco is being in the center between Taranto Brindisi and Lecce, thus allowing in about 1 hour to reach each of the three provincial capitals. Otranto is about 85 km from the hotel and from St. Peter in Bevagna.
SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA
St. Mary of Leuca (Lèviche in the dialect of Salentino, is a hamlet of the municipality of Castrignano del Capo, in the province of Lecce, in the southern Salento region. A popular tourist resort, it is the southernmost population centre of the entire province; about 70km from its capital Lecce. In Leuca you can admire the union of the two Adriatic and Ionian seas and its famous lighthouse, it is the southernmost point of Puglia and overlooks Greece, from its port in fact many yachts and boats for tourist holidays depart. By boat on its coast you can admire many beautiful caves and a coastline overlooking the Ionian Sea. To go to Leuca you can choose to do it from the Ionic side of Gallipoli or from the Adriatic side of Lecce and Otranto Castro passing through the Ciolo which is very nice 3km from Leuca.
OSTUNI (THE WHITE CITY)
Perched on three Ostuni hills is defined as the white city because of the color of the houses in its old town. It is picturesque and to be discovered, it stands in the Itria Valley at 218 meters above sea level, 8 km from the Adriatic coast. Ostuni is a popular tourist destination, boasting a wonderful medieval village, full of narrow streets and alleys and whitewashed houses reminiscent of an Arab casbah. We recommend an afternoon a nice walk in the old town, called the "land" to distinguish it from the most recent "marina", among alleys and picturesque views, admiring steep staircases, small squares overlooking palaces and white houses embellished with geraniums, restaurants, bars and artisan workshops. In the centre stands the fifteenth-century cathedral of Ostuni in the Gothic Romanesque style on which stands out a large rosette with 24 rays of very rare beauty. Hotel Caraibisiaco the sea in Puglia is about 55km from Ostuni, the strategic location of the Hotel on the sea but in the center of the high Salento, allows in an hour's drive to reach many destinations to visit in Puglia, both in Salento and in the Valley of Itria as Ostuni. Also recommended are Martina Franca, Locorotondo, Alberobello, Polignano at sea, it is worth making a tip during the beach holiday comfortably overlooking the world's largest natural pool: the Ionian sea on the side of St. Peter in Bevagna.
MARTINA FRANCA
Known for its Baroque architecture and the Valle d'Itria music festival in Summer, Martina Franca is located on the southern part of the Murge, bordering the provinces of Brindisi and Taranto where it is located. It also borders the province of Bari. It is an important agricultural and wine centre. A 14th-century town in the middle of the Valley of Itria has a beautiful old town, to visit the Ducale Palace, the Basilica of St. Martin, patron of Martina Franca, do not forget to taste the famous neck of Martina Franca and just 8 km from Martina you will find the small Locorotondo that is worth admiring, erected on a small hill. Bring a heavier sweater, we are over 465m above sea level, the air is crisp and certainly cooler than the coast. From the Caraibisiaco hotel on the sea is 60km away, it is advisable to cross Manduria then Francavilla Fontana, then Ceglie Messapica and direction Martina Franca. Together with Alberobello and Locorotondo is a tourist resort of Puglia certainly beautiful to visit, in addition the Festival of the Valley of Itria takes place right in summer, and is very popular with tourists. Great itinerary to catch a breath of fresh air even on the hottest evenings of the summer.
ALBEROBELLO IN THE MURGIA OF BARI
Alberobello is 78km from the Caraibisiaco hotel, also in the direction of Valle d'Itria, is in the centre of Puglia, in the Murge. The country has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by Unesco since 1996, obviously due to the presence of the trulli. Alberobello is one of the countries awarded the orange flag by the Italian Touring Club and recognized by an ANCI among the most beautiful villages in Italy. Alberobello is the main example of an urban center of trulli culture, with its almost 2000 conical-shaped buildings, it is in fact considered by many to be the capital of the trulli. The territory where the trulli arise is a karst territory, formerly inhabited for the most part by peasants. Trulli are small houses with no windows, or with a small and simple square or rectangular window. The color of the houses is white (i.e. whitewashed) with a gray cone roof. The trulli are built without cement and only with mortar and local limestone. Some are half a cone, like the trulli that with special steps outside allowed to fill them from above with straw and wheat. Who knows how to build and restore trullo is called Master Trullaro or the Trullaro, a figure that is almost gone but is trying to safeguard. Definitely a very evocative destination and features in Puglia even if a little further away, consider 1.5 hours to reach Alberobello comfortably.
POLIGNANO A MARE
100km from the Caraibisiaco hotel by the sea, if you're driving north to Bari you can take advantage of the return to the town of Polignano a mare, a famous and very evocative town of Bari. Polignano first and Polignano a mare then, has a very ancient history and reached its splendor during the Roman period. It soon became the nucleus for the sorting of traffic on the Brindisi Roma route. With the arrival of the Normans the fame and prestige of Polignano grew even more, thanks to the presence of benedictine monks who made it an area no longer passing but a nerve-racking place to conclude business and where to seek shelter and rest. The passage under the Republic of Venice is still visible today thanks to the presence of the Dogi Palace. The town is now divided into two areas with the oldest core that stands on a rock overlooking the sea. Definitely to cross the suspension bridge on foot to admire the spectacle and the inlet that made it famous in the world. It is a little further away from the Caraibisiaco hotel, on the other hand Puglia is immense, so it is advisable to visit it on return if you are going to Bari.
MATERA (CITY OF THE STONES)
Matera is one of the oldest cities in the world whose territory holds evidence of human settlements from the Paleolithic period to the present day. Matera represents an extraordinary page written through the millennia. Matera is the city of the Sassi, the original urban core, developed from the natural caves excavated in the rock and later modeled in increasingly complex structures within two large natural amphitheaters that are the Caveoso Sasso and the Barisano Sasso. Consider that in 1993 Unesco declared the stones of Matera a World Heritage Site. Matera is the sixth site in Italy in chronological order of importance, the first in Southern Italy. On the occasion of this appointment, for the first time Unesco uses the concept of a "cultural landscape" in its criteria and motivations. As proof of this on 17 October 2014, Matera was designated the European Capital of Culture for the year 2019. A unique spectacle at the center of an incredible rockscape that preserves a great heritage, and is home to events of great national and international prestige. It's 130km from the Caraibisiaco hotel, but anyone who decided to spend a full day visiting it has always returned to the hotel claiming it was worth it.
CASTELLO ARAGONESE DI TARANTO
MUSEO DEGLI ORI DI TARANTO (MUSEUM OF GOLDEN JEWELS)
Just 50km from the Caribbean hotel by the sea, in Puglia you can see one of the most beautiful collections in Italy. The Ori of Taranto are the most precious testimony of the refined Tarantina goldsmith: they are kept at the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto. Among the most precious golds is the flowering tiara from the "tomb of the Ori of Canosa", where it was found in the 1920s. The jewels, kept in the hellenistic goldsmith art section of the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto, are an important testament to how the processing of precious metals, and in particular gold, was one of the most developed activities in the famous city of Magna Greece between the 4th and 1st centuries BC.
The main processing techniques were hammering, chiseling, watermarking and granulation. Among the pieces on display in the "Room of golds", we note the jewels that belonged to some funeral kits, among which are noted: "Diadema in gold and hard stones" with floral pattern decoration; "Ship earring" with filigree processing; "Lion-headed earrings"; "Nutcracker"; "Silver tea" in the shape of a shell.
